Introduction
The Model United Nations (MUN) event, organized by KP’s 21st Century IAS Academy, proved to be an inspiring and engaging experience for all involved. The event saw around 120 student delegates participating in the General Assembly (GA) and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) simulations, representing various countries and engaging in debates on global issues. Among these delegates, a unique highlight was the participation of three principals from different schools, who actively took part in the MUN proceedings alongside the students.
The event was spearheaded by second-year degree students, who played a pivotal role in organizing and managing the event, demonstrating leadership and dedication in ensuring the success of the MUN.
Additionally, the event attracted an audience of around 1,000 students from 9th and 10th grades of various schools across the city. These students had the invaluable opportunity to witness the MUN debates firsthand and gain insights into the world of diplomacy and international relations. The presence of such a large and diverse audience added an extra layer of energy and enthusiasm to the event, providing young minds with an opportunity to observe diplomacy and international relations in action.
Key Highlights:
Special Guest - Mr. Venkat Sahit Kanala
The event’s Special Guest was Mr. Venkat Sahit Kanala, an IAS officer of the 2024 batch, from the Andhra Pradesh cadre. As an alumnus of KP’s 21st Century IAS Academy, Mr. Kanala’s presence added an inspiring touch to the occasion. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of staying true to oneself and working with passion and endurance to achieve one’s goals. He encouraged the students to remain focused and committed to their dreams, regardless of the obstacles they may face along the way.
Student Participation and Leadership
The event’s main attraction was the enthusiastic participation of around 120 students, each taking on the role of delegates representing various countries. These delegates actively engaged in deliberations in both the General Assembly and the UN Security Council, debating critical global issues ranging from peace and security to economic development. In addition, three students were appointed to the prestigious executive positions of President, Vice-President, and Secretary-General, responsible for overseeing the smooth functioning of the MUN proceedings.
Chairman, Mr. Krishna Pradeep
The Chairman, Mr. Krishna Pradeep, spoke about how MUN serves as an excellent training ground for future diplomats and leaders, enabling participants to hold prominent positions in global affairs. He highlighted how MUN enhances the diplomatic, negotiation, and public speaking skills necessary for future success.
Director, Mr. Varun
The Director, Mr. Varun, shared his perspective on how MUN can significantly change a student’s outlook on life. He stressed that the skills acquired during the event, such as effective communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving, have lasting benefits in both personal and professional life.
Dr. Bhavani Shankar
Dr. Bhavani Shankar, another respected Director of the academy, spoke on the importance of self-development. He encouraged the students to continually strive for growth, both as individuals and as future leaders of society.
